Nelson Mandela, the highly-respected South African anti-apartheid icon who spent 27 years in prison, led his country to democracy and became its first black president, died Thursday December 5th, 2013 at home. He was 95.
"Our nation has lost its greatest son," said South African President Jacob Zuma.
Most likely, we will not see anybody like Nelson Mandela again — someone who made decisions guided by love and not by hate. Someone who strived for a future that is worthy of any sacrifice. An inspiration for so many of us.
Our deepest sympathy goes out to his family and the South African people. We lost one of the greatest human beings there has been.
